What Are Mammoth Pecan Halves?

Mammoth is a size distinction. The United States Department of Agriculture’s standards for grades of shelled pecans defines Mammoth pecan halves as pecan halves that have 250 or fewer halves per pound.

What is a Pecan Grade?

The USDA sets standards for the grading of shelled pecans based on the following; moisture level, color, visible development, blemishes or lack thereof, and size. U.S. grades for pecans include U.S. Extra Fancy, U.S. Fancy, U.S. Choice, and U.S. Standard.

What Does “Extra Fancy Pecan” Mean?

According to the USDA, U.S. Extra Fancy Pecans are required to be well dried, have a moisture content no more than 4.5 percent, be well developed, uniform in light color, free from damage, uniform in size, and conformed to the size classification or count specified.

What Grade are Sunnyland’s Pecans?

Sunnyland Farms’ Mammoth Pecans exceed the USDA standard for a Mammoth pecan. Mammoth pecans shipped from Sunnyland Farms are typically fewer than 200 pecan halves per pound, as a result of larger than average Mammoth pecans.

All pecan halves shipped from Sunnyland Farms are graded according to the U.S. Extra Fancy Pecan requirements. Shelled pecan halves are graded by multiple color sorters that use an electronic eye and hand-graded by trained team members as a final standard check.
