Heart Thumbprint Shortbread

Fun fact about Mayhaw jelly. It's made with mayhaws which are small, tart, red-to-orange fruits from native southeastern U.S. hawthorn trees that resemble tiny crabapples

Ingredients

  • 1 cup salted butter cold from the fridge, diced
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 ½ cups flour
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup Sunnyland Farms Mayhaw Jelly

Instructions

  1. Start by blending cold butter with sugar and extracts.
  2. Add the flour and salt and blend until a crumbly cookie dough forms.
  3. . Shape the dough into tablespoon-sized balls, place them spaced 2-inches apart on lined baking sheet.
  4. Flatten with back of flat measuring cup. Then with thumbs, make a heart in each.
  5. Refrigerate for 20 minutes.
  6. Fill each heart with Sunnyland’s Mayhaw jelly.
  7. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes until golden brown.
